Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. A further round of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of players often get confused. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same approach in almost all poker games.

A lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.

It may seem difficult at the start, after a few hands you will be able to get the basic nuances of play with ease. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming assortment of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high, along with a few battling for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
