Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha hi/lo begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants often get flustered. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to utilize precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same concept in just about every poker game.

A lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.

Although it seems difficult at first, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo offers an exciting array of betting possibilities and because you have several players trying for the high hand, as well as several trying for the low. If you enjoy a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
