Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha/8 starts just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A round of betting follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some players get flustered. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same concept in nearly all poker games.

A lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

Although it seems complex initially, after a couple of rounds you will be able to get the base subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an amazing collection of betting choices and seeing that you have many individuals battling for the high hand, and several shooting for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha Hi-Lo.
