Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha/8 starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of wagering happens at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of players get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical notion in just about every poker game.

A lower hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem complex initially, after a few hands you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an exciting range of wagering choices and seeing that you have many individuals battling for the high hand, along with a few battling for the low.
